Pirates’ All You Can Eat Seats: Yay or Nay?

I recently had the pleasure of sitting in the Pittsburgh Pirates “All You Can Eat” seats, and, let me tell you, it was definitely a once in every few years experience.

First of all, these seats are so fun that doing it often would kill it, and there are also some obvious health issues with the concept.  After starving myself from about 11:00 A.M. to about 6:15, I dove right in.  Before Mike Tyson had thrown out the ceremonial first pitch, I consumed two cheeseburgers, one nacho, and two Cokes.  When all was said and done my final count was four burgers, a nacho, peanuts, three ice cream sandwiches, four Cokes and popcorn.

Now, you might be saying, “That’s absolutely disgusting,” and I would agree with you.  However, the ticket price was about 43 dollars, but after processing it was 48.  So let’s assume that the average ticket price at PNC Park is twenty dollars, the average burger is seven, nacho is six, a bag of peanuts is four, a coke is four, ice cream is probably about four, and popcorn is three.  If my assessments are correct, I ate about 57 dollars worth of food.  If you add the ticket in, that’s close to an eighty dollar night for only 48 bucks.  Granted, the food wasn’t five star restaurant quality, but it was ballpark food and I wasn’t expecting much.

That said, 48 dollars is a lot of money, and, if you’re smart, you can stay well under that at a Bucco game.  It is all relative to how much food you plan on eating.  As Jacob Huber, one of the guys I shared the experience with, said, “I’m pretty sure we ate the place out of business.”  Matt Trotta, another one of the guys, said, “The seats were a great deal.  I for sure got my money’s worth of food.”

As far as seats go, the All You Can Eats are located in the second level on the first base side about three quarters of the way down the line.  I personally don’t think that there is a bad seat in all of the ballpark, and these were no exception.  We were facing away from the sun and had a great view of the entire field.

All in all, the trip was a success.  I have never eaten more in my life and I loved every minute of it.  Take it from me.  If you have a huge appetite and you love baseball like me and my buddies, then these seats are for you.
