Bangtan Sonyeondan had a successful day at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards

On Sunday, May 20th, 2018, one of the most famous Korean band groups, Bangtan Sonyeondan, also known as BTS, received the social artist award in the Billboard Music Awards ceremony for the second time.

BTS travelled from Seoul, South Korea to Las Vegas, NV to attend.

Social artist award is an online fanbase category. Basically, people from all over the world can vote for their favorite candidate on either Billboard’s official website or tweet on twitter with the artist’s hashtag. The candidates were Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and BTS. It was not the first time BTS obtained victory. Last year, BTS broke Justin Bieber’s award streaks as well.

The fans screamed loudly as the band performed their newest song on the Billboard stage; “Fake Love from the album Love Yourself: Tears. Some songs from the album made it into the top 200 songs chart on Spotify’s global. The song “Fake Love” was first released on YouTube on May 18th, 2018. Additionally, it reached 81 million views on YouTube by May 23rd, 2018.

The band consists of seven members, and each has their own stage name: V, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, J-hope, Suga, and RM. Although the band members are from different parts of South Korea, they all came to the music company, BigHit, to start their career. The group was formed and debuted on the date of June 12th, 2013. The creator of the group is the band’s leader, RM. Their first song is “No More Dream” from the album Cool 4 Skool. Along their path, they have received awards such as Melon Music Award, Seoul Music Award, and much more to increase their recognition. Eventually, the group became internationally famous and became the first K-pop group to be on Billboard.

After the ceremony, BTS turned on live on an app called Vlive. Vlive allows Korean celebrities to do personal broadcasts for their fans to watch. Bangtan Sonyeondan showed a lot of appreciations toward their fans for helping them achieve such an honorable award.

“Thanks for everything, fans from all over the world not just America. It’s weird that it’s happening.  And… I don’t know what to say. I am so nervous. Thank you for everything, we love you,” said the band leader on Vlive.
